Lydia: Brave, Broken, and Beautiful

Lydia is so excited to go to Kindergarten in the fall. She willingly went to her Kindergarten check up, knowing she would gets shots and she did AMAZING! She did not have a full body tantrum as she has in the past. She tried very hard not to cry. She had a few silent tears and even tried laughing. She did run a high fever and get a cold but was still my beautiful girl. Last Friday she said "mom my ears are talking to me will you take me to the doctor?" I wasn't quite sure what she meant but as she had said they were talking to her several other times earlier in the week and I hadn't thought much of it. But now she was concerned and as her Mom I was too. I was able to get her in the same day, she had fluid and air trapped behind her ears and her sinuses where swollen shut. He thought it might be attributed to allergies and proscribed Children's Zyrtec. Alex and I had a laugh at the warning on the bottle. "Do not use drugs, or alcohol, drive or operate machinery" it was clearly labeled for children 2 to 11. I don't know any kids that age who do that....

Lydia went to play with the neighbors and had been gone a bit when Alex felt he should call and check on her. He pushed it off thinking she was fine, she had just left. About ten minutes later still feeling the prompting to call he did. No Answer. Not even three minutes later Lydia came through the door screaming bloody murder. She had fell off of their tramp and then couch. She was complaining of pain to them but not crying so they sent her home because they were going to eat dinner and so we could look at her arm. When she left them she was not crying. I think once she started to run to our house the pain hit her and she was inconsolable after that.

This is a picture of Lydia waiting to get her x-rays. She was not happy with me for asking for a thumbs up but did it any way.

The Results: Slip Fracture
Temporary Cast;We had to see a specialist the next day.
We went to the specialist the next morning. He had to move the bone back into place which was very painful for Lydia but again she held her Daddy's hand and was so brave. I am so proud of that beautiful girl.
And at the end...
She is hot pink and SASSY!

At home putting on a brave face.

She tried to have just Tylenol or Motrin but it didn't help so they gave her Lortab. And there it is, a drug that she can't take her Zyrtec with. Now the label warning makes some sense. Poor girl will just have to live with
her ears talking to her for a little longer.

She has to follow up with him Friday...which I guess technically is today to make sure it hasn't moved again. I guess it is quite common for them to do so even if they are casted. If it has he will have to reset it again. So pray for Lydia that it hasn't moved.

Either way she will still be my Brave, Beautiful, Baby Girl. I love her so much.

P.S.
This isn't the first time Lydia has broke her arm. Back in 2009 when she was three years old she broke this same arm only just below the elbow. She was playing on our bed and fell on it (not off of it, on it). And that is all that it took.
